The below is my impression of a speech by Sarah Palin recently, as reported in the Norwegian media (here and here – if you know the language).
What on earth are the American politicians thinking about when they come with statements like this? “Abstinence, not protection”.
We have all been young at one time, and we have all been curious. We have been curious about each other, sexually attracted.
We have all been fumbling, trying and clumsy. We have tested out our sex life to learn to know our own body, with a boyfriend/girlfriend or by our self.
This is natural and a process most feel that is necessary to be sure about the partner they are going to live together with or marry. It is not necessarily so that everyone is sexually compatible, and it would be tragic to find out that things do not click, after you are married.
Abstinence and no protection? A tragedy in itself. Within such a statement there are many unwanted pregnancies, abortions and sexually transferred diseases. What are the Americans trying to achieve? Do they want HIV and Aids to blossom? The double standard is sickening.. I think that every one of us should decide on things in their own life, as long as nobody gets hurt. With the use of contraceptives the general health will improve and the sexual debut, and that is something that is difficult to stop, will be safer. We cannot control what is naturally coded into us. We cannot say that one should be abstinent until married; it is not in our nature.
If a woman gets pregnant, something that might easily happen when not using protection, she must decide if she wants to continue or terminate the pregnancy. Sarah Palin and others with medieval attitudes and opinions cannot decide on behalf of the woman.
She preaches morals for the people, but did not even reach her own daughter. If the daughter had used protection, she would have had a better chance of achieving what she wants in life. Getting pregnant at 17 is a difficult thing.
Shame on you, Sarah Palin.
To all you young people out there; try the horse out before you buy it, but be sure to protect yourself!
;D
